I have recently purchased the R3 Pro Rock Robotics system along with the RS 3 Reach EMLID base station. I was kind of under the impression that you didn’t need to have GCP’s out when you fly your LiDAR. We have processed the data set and we are finding vertical errors of 15cm and above. Are GCP’s a necessity when flying the LiDAR with a RS3 Reach EMLID base station to process and get high vertical accuracy results. Thanks.
To get survey grade accuracy, you are going to need GCP’s unfortunately. I would see if you have any points in the survey area shot with a total station or RTK. If you have some that are visible in the lidar scan you already did you might be able to tighten the vertical up. You can bring them in as checkpoints. Still not sure if you would be able to get to survey grade though to be honest.
I use 2’x2’ painted targets on the pavement and in an ideal situation you want them in each corner of the flight and the center. Also if you place a few of them at areas of different elevation that will help accuracy.
